Good Morning, Africa!19. June - 11. August

Villa Karo, the Finnish-African Cultural Centre in Grand-Popo, Benin, has over the past 10 years served as a residence for almost 300 Finnish artists. To celebrate the anniversary, Kunsthalle Helsinki will organise an extensive exhibition to explore the impact of the residence and life in Benin on Finnish residency artists and their work. For some the result has been an immediate artistic rebirth, for others, a subconscious influence that has only surfaced later. The colourful jubilee exhibition features work by 50 artists: paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, moving images, comics, design, applied art and architecture.

The exhibition is curated by Maija Koskinen, Director of the Kunsthalle.

The Kunsthalle shop, Kiosque, will for the duration of the summer transform into an African-style bazaar with products from Benin. In addition to the exhibition, the public is treated to a corollary programme that presents a varied picture of African culture. See events section on our site.
