An image from the exhibition

Photographs by Gavin Watson (UK).

In the late 1980s, the phenomenon known as raves spread from London and Manchester first to Britain and then on to the rest of Europe. Gavin Watson was there and documented the raves in 1989, the time when acid house and dance culture were born.

Dancing crowds, the joy of belonging, the lasers, the 1980s fashion, the warehouses and fields where raves were held, the DJs, the happy embraces in dark corners...

If you were there, Gavin Watson's photos will give you goose-bumps;
if you weren't, they're the closest you'll get.
